The short lived Kingdom of the United States of America

The short lived Kingdom of the United States of America
The Kingdom of the United States of America (March 4, 1789 - September 7, 1791) was a short lived state in North America. Formed after the failure of the Confederation period, the Kingdom enlarged the powers of a national authority over the states, with the promulgation of the Constitution of 1789. Revolutionary War General George Washington was elected as king by the Congress and crowned on April 30. He selected a cabinet of union, bringing together the rival names of Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. The cabinet infighting, coupled with anti-monarchist guerrillas in the country led by disenchanted revolutionaries, brought great instability to the government. In January 1791, Thomas Jefferson left his post and pleaded support to the guerrillas, further strengthening their power. In August the same year, Alexander Hamilton quit the government over disagreements on King George's handling of a rebellion in Pennsylvania. He openly demanded the King to abdicate and for a new Constitutional Convention to be elected. With no political support, King George tried to persuade the military to quench the rebellions in the country, but the New York command of the Army refused to take any action and instead deposed the King. He was later executed by a firing squad and buried as a commoner. The end of the monarchy initiated a period of infighting in the nascent republic between the "centralists" Hamiltonians and the "anti-centralists" Jeffersonians.

Proclamation of the British Republic (1939)
The British Republic was proclaimed on January 29th 1939 following the conclusion of the Second Great War (1936 - 1939)

With the New Entente's shocking defeat and the fall of France, Britain lost much of its collonial Empire to the Axis Powers. With the King and his family having fled to Canada as soon as hostilities started, the reputation of the Monarchy was at an all time low. Eventualy, Parlament decided to abolish the monarchy altogether. The Republic soon held its first election in March of the same year, bringing forth a centrist cabinet made up of National Labor politicians. The Republic existed between 1939 and 1987, when a popular referendum Re-Established the Monarchy and King Charles III returned from exile in North America.

The Siege of Rzeszów and rise of the Monarchists
During the Austro-Hungarian Civil War, civilians dissatisfied with the monarchy of AH after the Empire only barely escaped defeat in WW1 revolted in 1919 and established a Republic. The monarchs of Austria-Hungary fled abroad. In 1921, as civil war was waged between the Republic and communist rebels, Polish forces revolted against Republican occupation with Polish government backing to seize the city of Rzeszow. However, a force loyal to the old monarchy descended upon the city to besiege it for six months, before it capitulated to Monarchists in December. The fall of Rzeszow was the first in a major string of Monarchist victories that'd re-establish the monarchy as a force to be reckoned with during the civil war.

In the end, most South Slavic lands successfully separated from AH to form Yugoslavia, while the Republicans and Monarchists both defeated the communists, fighting each other until the two agreed to re-establish an incredibly limited, titular-only monarchy in Austria-Hungary.

The Cascade

The Cascade
The Cascade was a series of events in the British Empire and India specifically that led to the collapse of British authority in the Sub-Continent by 1950, and a series of deeply violent conflicts in the region. The Cascade is said to have begun with the murder of Mohandas Ghandi by British authorities during a protest in 1943 over British wartime policies against Japan on the Burma front. A young military police officer accidentally shot Ghandi, causing a huge uproar that was only exacerbated by Viceroy Linlithgow's (and by extension, Prime Minister Churchill's) explicit refusal to allow for any trial for the police officer. India was rocked by protests at a time when Japan was on the march into Burma, and the hard British crackdown following the death of Ghandi led to even wider support for Chandra Bose's pro-Japanese Free India movement.

While Japan was still defeated by the United States and the Allies, the American's refusal to become involved in what FDR (and Truman after him) viewed as a British colonial quagmire led to Britain essentially quitting most of India due to lack of resources, with Bose becoming President of a Provisional Republic of Free India across much of north-east India. His tacit refusal to assist the Japanese outside of Burma was an essential part of India essentially becoming a neutral. His later embracing of the Soviet Union in 1948 resulted in election disaster for President Truman in the United States.

Ironically, his warm relations with Prime Minister Clement Atlee and his providing of food aid to the United Kingdom post-WW2 even during tense negotiations on Britain's future on the continent improved Bose's profile worldwide, as well as Atlee's at home and abroad as a real international statesman.

Battle of the Skyscrapers

Battle of the Skyscrapers

In 1942 the Axis Powers after a successful Sea Lion attempted a concentrated assault on the East Coast by attempting a conquest of New York. German submarines from all over the Atlantic secretly had been ordered for the assault. Also the Italian Navy and Air Force took part. Further more Japanese military personal took part in overseeing the mission. German Airplanes were launched from special submarines and also German ,Fallschirmjäger' paratroopers and SS-paratrooper units unleashed over the New York Harbor and surrounding areas. Further more German submarines delivered several dozen infiltrators to the beaches of the East Coast. Further more German American and some Italian sleepers and saboteurs had been ready to start an insurgency as soon as the attack occured. The Battle was very confusing for German and Italian planes had to navigate around the skyscrappers once in battle with American airforce. Meanwhile several hundred paratroopers tried to gain ground at the habor and were engaged by armed dock workers and police forces. Eventually the New York National Guard engaged the German troops aswell as US Army and Air Force. The US pilots confronted the Axis planes directly. Meanwhile US warships hurried to fight the Axis fleet in New York harbor. The Battle of Skyscrappers became a hallmark of WW2, US civillians took up arms, confronted Axis combatants with Revolvers, Sawed-Off-Shotguns and Tommyguns. Shopkeepers, lawyers, bankers, Taxi drivers and Newspaper boys came together to fight the common threat. In the end the Axis forces had been depleted, only a few Axis subs managed to escape the battlefield. Even weeks after the battle Axis operatives had been apprehended by vigilante forces. The battle itself had a stron psychological effect on the American public but also strenghtened the will to defeat the Axis Powers. Thus the war continued and the American awnser followed....

The (In)famous Yugoslav plan from the early 1970's to send some Yugoslav Celebrities into space in order to gain more favor and prestige in the international community. It nearly instantly failed, and the decision to choose the Bosnian countryside as the launch sites nearly provoked a revolt from the local Muslim population. Eventualy the program was canceled, having failed to get a single man or woman into orbit or even to launch a single rocket.

On February 11th, The Roman question was answered. In celebration, Mussolini had a private party, In which he became inebriated and shouted this quote at one of his guards. This embarrassing quote was ordered hidden the day after, but was revealed in 1945 by the guard, who was interviewed shortly after the fall of Berlin.

Politically correct name for the proposal to systematically claim and enlarge the island of Poveglia. Relocation of potebtially over 100,000 bodies and reclaimation (with possible expansion) of a landmass connecting Santo Spirito and other low-lying islands in between with plans for highways, bike paths, and walkways also built to link the city to the outer islands and those already mentioned was highly controversial especially due to the reputation for hauntings and paranormal phenomenon. Reportedly an American company showed interest in a quarter-square mile of the reclaimed land being just large enough for a particular brand of American petrol station with one representative noting, "the hellfire might make for interesting jerky and flavoring for the brisket".
