What if Disney had bought Classic Media instead of Dreamworks Animation?

In 2012, Dreamworks Animation bought Classic Media for $155 million. What if Disney had bought it instead? This would have given them the rights to many classic characters such as Casper, The Lone Ranger, Rocky and Bullwinkle as well as the libraries of companies like Filmation, Western Publishing, UPA, and more. This would have given Disney many opportunities to profit off from all these properties. I could easily see Casper, Rocky, Bullwinkle, and others appearing at Disney parks. I could also see Disney doing crossovers of the Harvey Comics characters with Disney creations like Mickey, Donald, and Goofy. What do you think would have happened if Disney had bought Classic Media? How would that have changed things? Would they still have bought Fox or might they have tried to buy TimeWarner before AT&T made their successful offer?

Was Disney in the running to buy Classic Media?

Unlike Disney's two biggest purchases (Marvel and Star Wars), the characters from Classic Media aren't all part of one big universe or canon. So they wouldn't have their own sections within the Disney Parks but rather their characters mixed in with the more famous Disney icons (Mickey, Goofy, etc). It's possible that the Disney higher ups try to incorporate some of the characters into the Disney canon, similar to how they worked back in Oswald the Friendly Rabbit in that one video game.

Classic Media is a rounding error in the Fox / Time Warner deals so it wouldn't have made any difference.

Disney already had the marketing for Dreamworks so can't see the drive to acquire Classic Media if Dreamworks were going to. Given the conspicuous lack of success that Classic Media IP has had probably a good decision.
