Explain the AH Quote

"The more ill-conceived the plan the greater its likelihood of success."
Purported statement made by Tiglath-Pileser I on setting out in 1114 BCE to retake the Levantine coastal settlements lost by his father following the 1133 Battle of Qadesh. Tiglath-Pileser had fewer than five thousand trained soldiers at his command and his opponent the Egyptian pharaoh Djutmose V had rebuilt the Egyptian army impressively. The Assyrians met with remarkable success at first, partly because their spies had deceived the Hittites into thinking Tiglath-Pileser was only interested in keeping the peace. However, a surprise naval assault by a combined force of Achaians and Wilusans forced Tiglath-Pileser to retreat.

"I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!"

"I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!"
Famous last words of Casiodoro de Reina, Spanish Protestant Theologian, Bible translator, and critic of the inquisition.

After escaping Spain and eventually settling in Frankfurt, Reina lived a peaceful life until one fateful morning in 1574. Four priests in Toledo, having been accused of heresy, decided to prove their loyalty to the faith by making the difficult trek to Frankfurt, disguising themselves as merchants. The inquisitors managed to sneak into Reina’s house and took him completely by surprise. They kidnapped Reina and took him back to Spain, where he was executed for Heresy

“Paris does not exist and it never has existed!”

“Paris does not exist and it never has existed!”
Attributed to King Louis II of France, who, according to the records, had grown increasingly annoyed at foreign functionaries and monarchs referring to his capital as Paris, when its proper name was "Lutainne". The expression is part of the phenomenon called "Exonymism", where a name for a country, region, or city deviates wildly from its actual name, but becomes known outside of it. Other instances include Lundwic in England, which was called "London" abroad, Constantinople, despite Ottoman and later Turkish authorities attempting to spread the name "Istanbul" with little success, and Edo in Japan, which, although briefly called "Tokyo" or "Easthern Capital", was returned to its original name once it became the capital of the country proper, but it still took until the 1950s that said name gained international traction.

"Science is inherently godly, and we have known this for as long as the Church existed. We gaze upon the Lord's work, and attempt to understand it, so we can appreciate it, learn what it means, how it works, and how its potential can be unlocked, as well as how parts of it fit together to make a greater whole, how each brushstroke was placed by divine hand to make the masterpiece that is His work. We are all part of a great mechanism, and the better we understand it, the closer we come to understanding His plans for us, with every discovery bringing us closer to Him, even if just in a small part.

However, ask any Atheist, or better yet, these 'Enlightened Ones' and 'Philosophers' in France, like the demagogue Voltaire, what Science and Research mean, and they will claim it is just witch-doctors staring at plants and rocks all day, while scribbling pointless doodles on paper, or mashing together scrap metal because it moves funny, and, according to them, things work because they do, not because of some underlying principle or mechanism. 'A river flows because it flows!', that's all they want to know, rather than 'A river flows as it takes the path of least resistance downhill', or 'There is blood in people because there is blood in people.', rather than 'Blood carries chemicals your organs need to work', and similar such nonsense. I have no words for such small-mindedness. May God grant me patience, and them forgiveness for their ignorance." - Excerpt from Pope Clement XIII's personal diary.

An excerpt from Pope Clement XIII's diary detailing his thoughts on the ideological conflict between two branches of philosophy and learning. The first one is shared by the Christo-Muslim world and have been called the "Thinkers of God" or the "Scientists of Allah". Namely, that they approach the scientific method with a philosophical mindset; that they have a holy duty to use science to better understand the world as part of a greater means to understand God. As such, many prominent scientists and thinkers have been funded by the Catholic Church and Caliphates, and this has continued on, even with the Protestant Revolution and Imman Reformation. After all, the latter still venerate science for the pursuit of "holy understanding" with the divides between them and the older Churches being a combination of authority, sectarianism and politics.

This leads into the second branch, that heavily defined by secular thinkers. While the "Enlightened Ones" or "Philosophers" are often insulted for being seemingly not interested in understanding the deeper truths regardng natural principles, this is a rather supecifcial view of it. These secular thinkers are rather more worldly and focused on the material. As such, they seek to figure out what works to figure out for the practical purposes of improving lives and technical knowledge. They do care for figuring the deeper mechanisms behind something, but they do not take a holy reverence to it, which makes them come across as rather flat by more theistic thinkers. As such, they have been considered to be thinkers who specialize more in range and interconnectivity compared to the thinkers aligned with religious institutions, who are considered deep thinkers.

These two philosophes regarding the transcedental and the material would be considered contrary to one another, but later considered complimentary later on as scientists would considerand take elements of both, as they are not exactly contradictory.

An excerpt from the history book A Dummies’ Guide to the Hornelias. The chapter this line comes from discusses the voyages made by Colon to the Americas and the subsequent discovery of the Viking voyages and the opening of relations between the European powers and the Viking nation of Vinland. Shortly after the opening of relations Amerigo Vespucci would run afoul of Florentian authorities and mine executed as a heretic, and the Americas would be renamed the Hornelias after English explorer James Hornel.

An excerpt over from an article on the presence of Muslims in western pop culture, giving a special shout-out over to Parvana. The Parvana series is a beloved video game franchise, especially over in the Middle East and developed by the Iranian game developer Qiblah Studios. The franchise focuses on Parvana, who must travel to the Muslim holy cities while fighting dangers and monsters in a fantastical version of the Middle East. The first game took inspiration from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link in terms of gameplay and presentation (which was due to the head developer getting the Japanese version.)

The franchise took off for openly having a female protagonist in the game and helping to become one of the leading ladies of gaming. The franchise would continue and expand on Parvana. She would get a sequel for the NES (which details her journey back to Iran) though her true rise would come on the SNES with Parvana: Quest for Truth, which would have Parvana end up searching for her father's disappearance across a fictional version of Iran. The SNES game would flesh out much of her and her supporting cast, showing her to be a quiet and dignifed young woman. Her supporting cast would include her shrewd if comical younger brother who is a traveling merchant, and her mother, a strong supportative woman. It would also introduce her reoccurring nemesis and the one who made her father disappear, a shaitan sorcerer named Dhajil. As such, it would become quite a celeberated game.

Her jump to 3D showed a transition in the franchise. Parvana 64 would see her go across the fictional verson of Iran, known as Eryhan, to stop Dhajil from attempting to take over her homeland. It would also flesh her and her family out a bit. That said, developers noted that they hit a stumbling plot for Parvana. And like her contemporaries, her way out of this creative funk would be to become unorthodox. This would be seen in the GameCube game Parvana: Occidental Pilgrimage. Parvana ends up teleported to a fictional version of Europe by a trap by Dhajil and she must make her way home. Here, the game franchise would develop a magic system and flesh Parvana's characterization the most. We learn her likes and dislikes along wth seeing a happier side of her. Notably, we also see the introduction of her love interest, a scholarly alchemist. The two bond over how different they are from their countrymen, their love of learning and their loneliness. This along with the angle of forbidden romance captivated audiences, especially by how raw the pairing felt. The story is framed as a coming of age story; as one of the developers put it- "Parvana is launched into a new world and have to change and grow, like we have to."

The franchise would also branch out into spinoffs. One is a more comical adventure of her brother and his looking for treasure (inspired by the Warioland games) over on the Gameboy Advance and later the Nintendo DS. Another would be a crossover between Parvana and Shantae of all people, a result of a magical artifact. The dynamic would be amusing as Parvana plays the straight woman to Shantae and her friends, yet never opposes going with their antics. The crossover game is also known where she and her love interest actually first kiss, thanks to Shantae. The next mainline game would be for the Nintendo Wii, in Parvana: Quest of Destiny. Parvana must save her homeland once more, as Dhajil has let loose demons and monster while she was away. It refined on the system along with increased puzzle-solving. Players could also use the Wimote to simulate her sword swings. She would also appear in Super Smash Bros Brawl alongside Sonic the Hedgehog as the first non-Nintendo characters there, appearing since then. Her next game, for the Wii U, would be a direct sequel, in Parvana: Restoration. While Parvana saved her home, it's still in ruins. However, a key to healing the land lies with her going to find the "King of Djinn" to heal her land. She travels to the nation nearby to find it. She also uses the magic slate she found (the Wii U) to go and make matters easier. And then would be her latest game for the Nintendo Switch in Parvana: Enlightenment which has her and her love interest venture up north in an open-world action-adventure with RPG elements. The land here is themed after Central Asia and explores a new facet of Parvana. Here, a form of pilgrimage with her beloved as she confesses feeling unsure of what to do with her life and the two working together to conquer this uncertainty. This reflects on Qiblah Studios' own thoughts on how to move forward. Beyond this, Parvana has appeared in DLC packs for Shantae games, usually with new adventures and dialogue. The Parvana franchise remains quite beloved over in Iran and in west, and considered a premier example of Iranian representin in pop culture. It also showcased the close bond between Iran and the United States.

"After refusing to aid the British in their coup attempt in Iran, President Eisenhower would back Mossadegh, resulting in Iran becoming a parliamentary republic. This show of support would strength American-Iranian relations as the latter became America's premire ally in the Middle East."

A quote from the book Eisenhower and Iranian democracy. Against the advice of his advisors, Eisenhower would oppose an attempt to coup Mossadegh. This damaged relations with Britain for a while before President Nixon help spark a reconciliation. Mossadegh would be successful in his reforms and ensure Iran would be a prosperous and free democracy in the Middle East, a beacon of what democracy in and Islamic majority country could look like. This inspiration would prove crucial in the later Democracy Spring in the Arab world after the end of the Cold War.

The 1930s saw another influx that would define the nation when it threw opens its doors to the vast number of Jews fleeing persecution."
A blurb on the BBC World Factbook of the history of the Imperial State of Aleska, published in 1956. Aleyska had long been the backwater province of the Russian Empire, essentially only existing as an in-road into American trade and a thumb in the eye of the British Empire. There were brief discussions of selling it to the Americans, but the collapse of America into civil war put those ideas to bed. And so Russia held onto it, settling it with a trickle of settlers both Russian and Chinese, the latter being sourced from the newly annexed provinces of Russian Manchuria. This was further added to by a deluge of emancipated serfs as the Aleyskan gold rush began around the turn of the century.

However, the most powerful rush of settlement came in the wake of the Russian revolution of 1915, following the collapse of the Russian Empire to a joint British-Ottoman-Japanese sponsored operation, setting the end of the period of dominance of the Eastern Alliance of Germany and Russia and providing much relief for an embattled France. Strangely, the British supported the flight of the Czar into exile as the British sponsored revolution grew out of hand in Russia proper, the Ottoman's Islamic uprising in central Asia seized that whole region, and the Japanese outright annexed the Russian Pacific oblasts. Britain nixed any potential annexation of Aleyska by Japan, which sowed the seeds of the Anglo-Japanese split. Instead, the Czars sailed into Novoarkhangelsk, and declared the Imperial State of Aleska, a province of the Russian Empire in exile.

Thought the nascent Russian Republic fell to an ultranational-populist alliance under Nikolai Maximilian von Ungern-Sternberg, the so called Black Legion, they neglected to invite the young Czar Alexei to reassume his throne, with Ungern-Sternberg stating that the Imperial Family's flight into exile had proven their lack of fortitude and inability to lead Russia. Instead, as pogroms and mass murders began by the Black Legion against the Jews and former leftists, many fled to Aleyska. They settled the southern islands, the influx of populations supported by the British, Canadians, and to this day make up to a third of the Aleyskan population.

A quote from the 1984 book "The Fall of the House of Mouse" by Michael Eisner, Detailing the collapse of the growing media power, after the flop of Disneyland, and then failing to keep the talent of future hollywood icon Bobby Driscoll, (Who would later go on to play iconic roles such as Luke Starkiller, and would also play Peter Parker in Tobe Hooper's Spider-man movie), Eisner later argues that the loss of Driscoll was a case of hindsight bias, but still remains critical of it...

German chancellor Konstantin Schmitt (2077-2095, known as Konstantin Schmitt-Diarra from 2080) in October 2090, shortly after the worst pandemic since the bubonic plague (although the iFR was "only" 14 %, the cFR was on average 41 % and rose as high as 54 % in the Phi or "Ghana" variant), officially called AVID-83 but almost universally called Antarctic Virus and derogatorily Penguin Virus) had been declared over by the UNHO (though people would continue to suffer and die from long-term symptoms deep into the 22nd century). The main symptoms of the Antarctic Virus/AVID-83, after a long incubation time of 21-45 days in which the virus can already be spread via droplet and aerosol infection, were at first flu-like. After a "remission" phase of 8-14 days, flu-like symptoms returned and persisted as white blood cells and B cells (unlike HIV, which destroys T cells) are continuously infected, destroyed and lead to moderate to severe immunodeficiency allowing the virus to persist. Red blood cells and coagulation are affected too, at least to a certain extent. Most symptoms ever observed were observed in at least a few cases of Antarctic Virus and a major symptom were hormonal disorders especially in those infected during puberty or menopause, leading some to believe that the Antarctic Virus disrupted basal, but poorly understood processes of protein formation. ART and even newer versions of anti-HIV medication available since the late 2030s have proven ineffective on Antarctic Virus. Some seem to be able to fend off the virus without lasting effects on the immune system or any other system. Death rarely occurs within a month of symptoms appearing for the second time, unless a patient already has preexisting conditions or coagulation is affected significantly worse than usual, the disease turning into a type of haemorrhagic fever. However, death from immunodeficiency after two to nine months of symptoms appearing is the most frequent cause of death.

From the 2004 horror film Ossicones, about a killer dinoceratan genetically ressurected, spoken by Lana Clarkson's newsreporter character. It was part of a wave of killer animal films in the late 1990's and 2000's that had prehistoric species as their focus, which were called Palaeo-Horror. They went the way of their subjects in the mid-2000's amid criticism of their formuliac nature and themes, which as summed up by Malcolm Ray in a retrospective on the subgenre, were always "Folly of man creating genetics and/or time machine".

Emperor Napoleon II to the increasingly independent-minded Austrian Kaiser. Here he made it clear that Austria was subservient to France, and that any disloyalty would be met with threats of force, whether from him or his heirs.

"'Canals? In my canal zone?' It's more likely than you think."
Humorous remark made by Emperor Napoleon IV when asked about the feasibility of the Tehuantepec Canal project. Following the humiliating Confederate defeat in the Confederate-Mexican War, France would significantly expand its influence in Central America via its proxy, the Mexican Empire. The Tehuantepec Canal would become the centerpiece of France's hold firm over Mexico and the region.

"Only Bobby can go to Japan and shake hands with Chairman Miyamoto."
Line from the cartoon "King of the Hill", specifically the two-part episode "Returning Japanese". Although the series' A Plot was about Cotton Hill making amends with his past as an american soldier during the occupation of Japan, finding out he had a son with a local woman, the B Plot dealt with Bobby Hill making friends with a young Japanese boy called Hiro around his age, who turns out to be none other than the son of Chairman Shigeru Miyamoto, one of the Chairmen of the Nintendo Entertainment Company, and would eventually lead to Miyamoto, recognizing Bobby Hill's unforeseen talent for programming by solving a coding problem none of his programmers could fix, or in Bobby's confused words "I just typed away and it worked. It was clear when I saw it", ending in him getting to know his son's new friend, and eventually offering the young Texan boy a job at his company once he is old enough, sending him home with a game console not yet released in the USA, with Hiro and Bobby remaining friends through letters as shown in an ending scene, after the Hills had returned home. Hank Hill, Bobby's father, was rather proud of his son, leading to him saying that line as the Miyamotos, Cotton's son and his mother, and the Hills make their farewells at the airport.

Random mother to a rioter during the New York City Blackout of 1972. The Big Blackout, as it would come to be caused, began when the hydroelectric plants located in Niagra were not properly maintained. Zebra mussels had been allowed to build up along the inflow pipes. This was further compounded by the aging generators which had been installed in 1936 and never replaced. At this point they were slow, producing a minimum amount of power, which thankfully the transformers could handle due to THEIR age. When a new maintenance team was assigned to the dam one of the first things they did was remove the mussel covered grates, which led to a significant increase in water flow. The generators began working overtime, generating more current than the transformers could handle, which led to said transformers blowing out. The feedback from this also caused the generators to overload and explode, plunging New York City into 72-hour long blackout that resulted in mass rioting, looting, rapes and general mayhem. After the dust settled courts found that the Socialist Party of Eastern America had long known about the problem but elected to do nothing because it would be expensive. As a result, the Socialists were voted out of power in what is now called “Manhattan Spring”, replaced instead with a liberal party.

I could go on forever listing what entitled asshats on both end of the human lifespan you both are, but let me just say you two lots should be thrown out and abandoned at some juvie hall slash retirement home hybrid away from the rest of us, and you can do this country a favour by fighting each other out like you want to 'till your all gone."

"You Boomers and Millenials despise each other, but you know what? I depise both of you. Ya know why? You're so alike in arrogantly thinking you're always right and everyone who doesn't agree with you is wrong. The rant of Xavier Nunn, the protagonist, from the 2019 satire film Generational Beat. The film is a rather scathing examination of the generational conflict within the United States, starring three men born in differing times having to share a rather run-down condo. 50-year-old Xavier Nunn represents Gen X and is speaking to 70-year old Ronald Warwick (the Baby Boomer) and 30-year old Yeoman "Yeon" Peace (the Millenial/Gen Y). Here, the scene has Xavier getting involved in a rather bitter fight between Warwick and Peace.

However, the scene would take a sharp turn when Peace would start ranting back over at Xavier. Peace accuses of Gen X of being more arrogant than the Boomers, pointing that Gen X has done little, but enable the worst aspects of the Baby Boomers and believe themselves to be better than either generation by dint of doing nothing. As Peace puts it, Millenials and Gen-Zers have no respect for Gen X because they are the "do-nothings" who have let the Boomers get away as much as they have. That, like the boomers, they received the best of things, and squandered it. The only difference is the attitude and while the Boomers deny anything is wrong, the Gen Xers don't care. A fight would break between the three as a result though some have noted it didn't take long before Nunn and Warwick gang up on Peace. The fight only ends with Warwick has a heart attack and has to be taken to the hospital.

Over in the hospital, while Nunn and Peace are waiting. Nunn gets a call from his ex-wife regarding their kid, 15-year old Zachery Webb (who represents Gen Z), and picking him up for a recital. Offhandedly, Nunn asks Peace to go and get Zach (with Zach knowing both Peace and Warick from earlier in the film). Peace looks stunned over at Nunn before going to drive off and get Zachery while Nunn waits in the hospital regarding Warwick. Warwick ends up dying with Nunn as company, with Nunn getting his share of the apartment as well. Yeon meanwhile drives to gets Zach. Zach is not too surprised by his dad not picking him up, though he would be surprised that Yeon would go and watch the recital. The film's ending timeskips months later Xavier alone in the messy apartment, having sold Warwick's stuff and struggling to fix the condo by himself.

According to the film crew, the ending represents Xavier now in Warwick's position, but dragging his feet in making meaningful changes despite knowing what is wrong. The film also constrasts it with Yeon, who decides to become involved in Zach's life to make up for Xavier's absence. As such, the analogy is Gen X preparing to take on the reigns of the Baby Boomers but being ill-prepared and unsure of what to actually do while the Millenials (Gen Y) have chosen to look after Gen Z, hoping to not make the same mistakes. Gen Z, represented by Zach, is implied to prepare to enter the existential struggle with the birth of Zach's nephew, Alphonse (representing Gen Alpha).

The film would become quite a cult classic, being equal parts loving homage and scathing critique to Gen Xers, with the writer, producer and director being Gen Xers themselves. As they put it, the film was a response to how Gen X's views over on both Boomers and Millenials.

"After Emperor Maxilimillian gave up the crown in Mexico, he would end up becoming the King of Argentina, establishing the modern Argentine state as a constitutional monarchy. He would end up serving as a prominent influence in Argentina, along with seeing Argentina defeating and annexing Chile and later Uruguay in the Conal Wars."
