Stupid Luck and Happenstance, Thread III

The fecal matter is being stacked in the appropriate manner, the fan's motors are being serviced and put into proper state of repair, the operator is standing by just waiting for the word to be given.

Erich's stock among the Marine infantry, especially among the ranks, will go through the roof after this. Not for the article, but the story in the hospital.

Tilo certainly won't be upset either.

The fecal matter is being stacked in the appropriate manner, the fan's motors are being serviced and put into proper state of repair, the operator is standing by just waiting for the word to be given.
And its going to a particularly large and potent stack of fecal matter hitting the blades of a particularly powerful rotary air impeller.

So does the Van Halen Family emigrate to the United States in 1962?
The mother was an Indo(Eurasian) woman from Java, and the father was a Jazz musician, if they stay in the Netherlands, then that would be a Mothra for American rock music,

We have another person we might hear from that we have not heard from in a while. Christoph Hase should be up there in Rank by now and should be serving on with the High Command in Wunsdorf. Might be an Admiral of some kind in charge of the small boats and such and might have something to say about one of his Kaptain's running from a fight.

Admiral Hase was I believe the Head of the Board of Inquiry when LF Jr blew up an explosive laden fishing boat in North Africa, so with his reputation of being a "Sailor's Sailor" he would go directly to the facts, and not let Rank or Connections get in the way.

Part 151, Chapter 2737
Chapter Two Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty-Seven

3rd December 1978

The Hohenzollern Palace was now the Berlin-Brandenburg Museum of National History most of the year which was evidenced by the massive permanent Johann Wolfgang von Goethe exhibit that Kiki had just walked through a few minutes earlier. For a few nights each year though, the palace served its original function, especially the Grand Ballroom which she was entering wearing the formal uniform of a General of the Imperial Medical Service, the white tunic with all the medals, service orders, and other awards pinned to it. She took a second to make sure that the cornflower blue beret with the Medical Service pin was at the right angle. The ankle length blue skirt was something that Kiki had heard a lot of jokes about over the years, that with the conservative nature of the Service Branches they might as well have made them wear a puptent. Still, it was a part of who she was, and it was not like she had needed to wear it often.

Oddly, Kiki’s childhood was a part of the Museum’s history. There was an exhibit in what had been the Royal Nursery. It featured photographs and artifacts pertaining to the generations of children who had grown up in the palace, including her. She supposed it was better than that other exhibit that lionized her ancestors. Supposedly there was a demand for a historically accurate telling of the past and that would have been to Kiki’s preference, but the Museum’s Director obviously knew exactly who his patrons were…

The Grand Ballroom of the Old Winter Residence was admittedly spectacular when it was set up as it had been when this building had hosted the Winter Court. It was still used as such when Kiki’s brother wanted to do a formal event and tonight was considered a preliminary to the opening of the Winter Social Season in a couple weeks with the Royal Winter Ball. In the weeks that followed, Berlin would host a dizzying number of events until Carnival. It was all a showcase of the city and how it stood at the crossroads of the world.

Kiki’s mail had been flooded with invitations, which was something that happened every year. Everyone had the hope that the “elusive” Princess Royal of Germany would attend their party. The truth was that Kiki wasn’t difficult to find if you knew where to look, it just happened to be in a place where people generally didn’t want to find themselves. When she had lived in Berlin, Kiki had often been working in the Emergency Department of the University Clinic when people who had overindulged at one of those parties had arrived there for a variety of reasons that all revolved around drunken stupidity.

Tonight’s event was something that Kiki couldn’t ignore or beg off though. Freddy had made sure that it was a surprise, Kiki’s induction into the Order of the Black Eagle for decades of service. Kiki had been in the Medical Service since she was sixteen having joined the instant she could legally do so. Now she was retiring from active service, as absurd as that sounded because she was only thirty-six… Then Kiki had the sour thought that her birthday was in only a few weeks’ time. Freddy had pointed out that she was leaving with the final rank of Generalstabsarzt, and because she was leaving anyway Kiki was an Inspector of the Medical Service without assignment. Not that it mattered because she knew that if she stayed then she would be too senior to be doing the kind of work she liked, which would be unacceptable.

Every medal Kiki had been awarded, every Service Order she had been inducted into, her conduct over the years, all of that had been factored in during the nomination process by a Committee of Experts despite Freddy having the last word. They had informed Kiki that she had been nominated because she had possessed the qualities benefitting the Order despite her obvious disadvantages when they had seconded the nomination.

The arrogance of that had reminded Kiki of how of all the Service Orders of Germany, she had despised the exclusive nature of the Order of the Black Eagle. Most of the time it had been awarded to foreign Soverns as a matter of courtesy or members of the House of Hohenzollern. The latter practice had gone out of fashion, but for what was supposed to be the highest possible award from the State it had seldom been awarded by merit alone. Kat was one of the few people who had done it, but that had required an insane, almost suicidal, act of bravery by taking on six armed Russian assassins inside the Hohenzollern Palace armed with only a Karambit in what some considered the opening act of the Soviet War which would set the whole world on fire in the months that followed. Kat had done it to save Kiki’s mother and two older brothers. A detail that had only occurred to Kiki as an adult was that her mother had been three months pregnant during that incident, with her.

“His highness is ready for you now” One of the attendants said as the doors to the Grand Ballroom were opened. Unsure about what to do with her hands Kiki stepped into the brightly lit ballroom. There were people politely applauding as she made her way to the front, as her eyes found Ben she saw that he was standing with Nina. Louis and Elene were too young for this. The look on Nina’s face… For some reason, Kiki’s daughter had built her into this heroic figure. It was a reminder that despite her brother’s pretensions, Kiki wasn’t doing this for herself.

Kiki is like most people who perform heroic acts, they truly do not understand why others consider them to be heroes. When asked why they did the heroic act, or are rewarded for doing it, their typical response is typically embarrassment and them saying "I'm no-one special" followed by a variation of one of the following:
"Someone had to do it"
"It seemed like the right thing to do"
"I was just doing my job"

This seems to easy. Freddy promised a surprise and her getting inducted wouldn't be a surprise because she was told ahead of time. Freddy is up to something, does Kiki have a beeper that might go off so she can skip out before hand? You know emergencies happen, car wrecks, plane crashes, avoiding a big to do about her.

Anyone else would have done the same...
Yep. Pretty much everyone who’s won a VC is confirmation of that.
